The tradition

A night that has become Lebanese

Every autumn, young women from every region of Lebanon descend the grand staircase of Casino du Liban and are presented to society in white.

Le Bal International des Débutantes is a non profit philanthropic organisation founded in 1998. It is an annual debutante ball and fashion event: gowns by Lebanese couturiers, an opening waltz with cavaliers, a gala dinner and live performances.

The girls presented each year come from the leading families of the country, daughters of ministers, ambassadors, industrialists and established houses of Lebanese society. Presentation is by selection, never by registration alone. Behind the tiaras there is a purpose. The Bal is a fundraiser, and its proceeds have equipped the Lebanese Red Cross with ambulances for years. Recent editions also honour the Lebanese Civil Defence, whose officers form the guard of honour on the staircase.

The founder

Madame Regina Fenianos

The woman behind it all.

Madame Regina grew up in Brazil, where a girl's fifteenth year is celebrated with a debutante ball. She always imagined giving that night to a daughter of her own. Life gave her three sons instead, so she gave the dream to the young women of Lebanon.

In 1998 she founded Le Bal International des Débutantes and she has presided over it ever since. She runs the rehearsals herself, guides every entrance and makes sure each debutante walks onto that stage with poise.

To generations of debutantes she is a mentor and an example of grace and generosity. Her conviction is simple: an evening of elegance should also change something for the country.

Six movements, from rehearsal to last dance

  1. Weeks before

    Selection and rehearsals

    Applications are reviewed by the committee. Selected debutantes rehearse the entrances and the waltz under the eye of Madame Regina.

  2. The gown

    Dressed in white

    Each debutante wears a white ball gown, long gloves and a tiara, dressed by Lebanese couturiers.

  3. Arrival

    The grand staircase

    The debutantes gather for the official portrait, framed by the guard of honour.

  4. Presentation

    One by one, each young woman is presented on the arm of her father and her cavalier.

  5. Un, deux, trois

    The waltz

    Beneath the chandeliers the debutantes and cavaliers open the ball with the waltz they rehearsed for weeks.

  6. The gift

    Gala and giving

    Dinner, live performances and the moment the evening exists for: the donation to the Lebanese Red Cross and Civil Defence.

Elegance with a purpose

By its 21st edition in 2018, the Bal had offered its fifteenth ambulance to the Lebanese Red Cross. Every inscription, every table and every sponsor contributes to emergency care across Lebanon.
